COPE2
Born in 1968, New York City native, Cope2 lives in the South Bronx, New York, where he realized his passion for graffiti. A self-taught artist who is also a celebrated figure for over 30 years in the graffiti art culture, his artwork has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and auctions throughout the United States and abroad. Cope2 developed his style in the subways and streets of the South Bronx and began tagging his name in 1978. He continued with his “Wildstyle” graffiti throughout the city during the 1980’s and 1990’s to receive international recognition for his distinctive style. Cope2’s recent credits include the sale of his artwork on the Christie’s auction block, artwork for Adam Bhala Lough’s Bomb the System, designing a pair of Chuck Taylor All-Stars Converse Sneakers and collaborating with the New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter to produce graffiti on memorabilia. His work has even crossed into the virtual realm with appearances in video games such as: Marc Ecko’s Getting Up and Rockstar Games: Grand Theft Auto IV. Today, you can catch Cope2 in the studio painting, bringing his raw energy into abstract masterpieces, intertwined with his trademark bubble letters and tags on canvases and curating group exhibitions.
